Castles in the Air

Castles in the Air

Trencin Castle, Beckov Castle, Čachtice Castle The good thing about Piestany is that there are so many great places to visit within easy reach. I think we’ll be here for a while. Lovely! Trencin, for example, is only 45 km away. There is no mistaking the dominating feature of this city. Dating from the 11th century, Trencin Castle, the third largest castle in Slovakia, looms high above the old town centre and can be seen from all angles. Even my…

Villainy in the vineyards

Villainy in the vineyards

Harkany and Villany, Hungary We’ve moved on to our next station, Harkány, and I suspect my owners will be more than happy to dally a while. Keep taking the Pils

Keep taking the Pils

We are spoiled for choice. Our very friendly campsite owners…

Taking the waters

Taking the waters

We packed up again and moved on from the Bohemian Forest. Northward, unfortunately. Will I never see the sea again? At least we are in spa country now, so there’s no shortage of water. The Oldies originally planned to stay near Karlovy Vary, the world-famous spa town otherwise known as Carlsbad, but the only campsite they could find was firmly stuck in the nineteen sixties. It was perfectly functional but positively grim. It gave us all the willies! So we…
