Rocky Road to Uzhhorod

Rocky Road to Uzhhorod

Day trip to Uzhhorod, Ukraine From our base in Snina, we are so close to the Ukrainian border that the Dynamic Duo couldn’t resist the temptation to a slip over on a day trip. Crossing the border turned out to be quite an experience in itself. It took a solid hour. The Ukrainian officials were friendly enough though. One spoke good English and was all smiles when she saw Her Ladyship’s Irish passport. ‘Ah, you’ve got that funny language with…

Cars and Caries in Piestany

Cars and Caries in Piestany

Concours d’Elegance, Piestany Every time we go back into Piestany, I fear another spa visit. Šibenik, Primošten, Trogir, Dalmatian Coast In between our numerous trips inland to the Krka National Park, we have been touring the Dalmatian coastline. And what a coastline it is. I have rarely seen a more picturesque location for a bus stop. I don’t think I would get very far in this part of the world if I had to rely on public transport. I’d be far too distracted by those incredible views to remember to keep an eye out for…

Hot and arid Arad

Hot and arid Arad

Makó, Hungary and Arad, Romania   I wasn’t joking about the potholing! The first 100 km from Debrecen to Makó was a series of potholes, bumps, ruts and ridges. His Lordship is more into heavy metal, but this was a case of rock and roll. Or, rather, shake, rattle and roll! Thankfully the roads eventually improved and I was finally able to enjoy the passing scenery without my eyes blurring. Various crops are grown on the plains, my favourites being sunflowers….
