Border hopping

Border hopping

Tri-border Walk, Oberschwarzenberg After all the pomp and grandeur of ancient trading towns and monasteries, we have now gone back to nature. We’re staying on a wonderful campsite with a swimming lake in a place called Klaffer am Hochficht. No, I hadn’t heard of it before either, but apparently it’s known for its skiing, hiking trails and, of all things, herbs. There you go now. I was excited to learn that we were only a few kilometres from the Dreiländereck,…

Kicking up a stink in Schlierbach

Kicking up a stink in Schlierbach

Schlierbach Abbey, Upper Austria I’ve visited quite a few abbeys on our travels, but of course, each one is different and Schlierbach Abbey was no exception. A Stay in Steyr

A Stay in Steyr

Museum Arbeitswelt, Steyr After those wonderful few weeks in Croatia, the Oldies soon set off again to do some touring around Austria. Walking with Dinosaurs III

Dinosaur remains in Istria We’ve been enjoying the wonderful spring weather in Istria, relaxing, visiting the stunning Limski Kanal/Lim Fjord. But after our outing to Dinopark, the Featherless Fossils appear to have got their teeth into the dinosaur theme. After hearing that fossils and footprints had been found in Istria, they decided to set off on a further search of dinosaurs. First stop was the quaint, ancient town of Bale. Built around what looked to me at first like the…

Bird Lovers’ Paradise

Bird Lovers’ Paradise

Papago Park, Istria Well, this was a find – a bird park! On a hot day such as we had, Papago Park in Črvar, just up the road from Poreč, was the perfect place to visit. The beautiful setting in natural woodland is shady and cool. The dedicated park owners apparently spent seven years preparing and landscaping the grounds. Their hard work has certainly paid off. Apart from keeping visitors cool, it is an ideal environment for the feathered inhabitants…
