ABOUT ME

Seamus the Seagull takes flight

After languishing on a shelf in an Irish bar in the basement of a house in France for six years, followed by five years perched on a plastic blue and white bollard in a toilet next to a marine-themed bar, followed by a further three years standing on a window sill in Austria, staring longingly southwards, I, Seamus the Seagull, am off on a trip around the world!

Sort of.

My owners, himself Austrian, herself Irish, are both fifty-something. Don’t ask me what that is in seagull years, but they are pretty ancient anyway. They seem to have realised that themselves too because they have been rabbiting on for yonks about how ‘life is too short’, ‘we must live for the moment’, ‘you never know what’s around the corner’, ‘it could be our turn next’, ‘it’s now or never’ …. all the old clichés.

To cut a long story short, the pair finally decided to take the plunge, give up the jobs that were tying them to their hometown, pack up their beer bellies and bunions and set off to travel the world. Or a bit of it anyway. Slowly. And without a fixed itinerary.

The important thing is, they’re bringing me with them. To be honest, I’m not sure that they have much of a clue what they are doing, but I’m not complaining. I’ve had my fill of sitting around on shelves and bollards and window sills.

Watch out world (or a bit of it), here I come!

So finally that great day dawned, 25th June 2016, the day after the result of the Brexit referendum was announced, the day Seamus the Seagull (along with the Oldies) took flight.

Forget all those clichés. I can sum it up in one word: FLEXIT.
