Watching the EURO 2016 in Vrsar

Watching the EURO 2016 in Vrsar

I wore my Ireland scarf, screeched my head off, all to no avail. Poor Ireland went out in the end, but my little gull chest swelled with pride. They did a great job. Well done, you boys in green! It’s been interesting watching the matches down here in Croatia. Ah, poor Croatia. My heart went out to them. They really gave it their all. The locals were very subdued after their defeat. Even the gull population seemed a little quieter than usual the morning after.

German, Italian, Hungarian, Slovakian and Belgian flags are very much in evidence around the campsite (the Austrian ones are flying at half-mast). Humans are funny. I observed a German guy throwing a major tantrum because he couldn’t get his satellite dish set up in time for one of the Germany matches.

At least that’s one technical challenge my owners don’t have (god knows they have enough as it is!). They don’t have a television so it’s a great excuse to go to the pub. We’ve been watching most of the matches in Vrsar. I love this town because it has a real working harbour, it’s not just all tourism. It’s handy to have eyes on both sides of my head – I can keep one eye on the match and one on the harbour, watching the fishing boats setting out for the night.three pleasure boats in foreground, calm sea, town on hill in golden evening sun in background, blue, almost cloudless sky, Vrsar, Croatiaevening light on sea with boat motoring across in foreground, dark background
